The Council of Fashion Designers of America, CFDA, has taken the reigns to push the United Nations’ call for the urgent need to adopt and support a directive on sustainability, globally, at least in the U.S, by the fashion industry.
Upholding the banner of sustainability, the non-governmental organization had launched a resource hub earlier this year that centered on sustainability. Aiming at supporting its members, educators and professional community, the hub will provide an open-access to resources belonging specifically to the fashion business. The NGO’s focus is professional development, especially providing aid to brands in their early stages build their business around sustainability.
CFDA will also launch informational options on Jan 14. The highlight out of the mix is a Material Index that will encompass a directory of materials that are sustainable, including fibre information and description. The other important element is the Sustainability Directory, which is a resource hub shedding light on a network of fashion designers, companies and students with resources including organizations and tools.
A Guide to Sustainable Strategies will also be there in the informational offerings set which will focus on helping the members and enthusiasts to create, meet and exceed their sustainability goals while giving an insight on the sustainable journeys of members in the form of case studies.
A sustainable strategies’ toolkit will also be offered to give a layout that provides framework for brands to fulfil their sustainability priorities along with a sequential guide to create strategic blueprints for the same.
The resource hub will be spotlighted through a series of roundtables and workshops with one of the workshops themed around making membership brands aware about U.N.’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Not just limited to this partnership with U.N., CFDA, in its strive for sustainability has also introduced the CFDA + Lexus Fashion Initiative. A separate virtual residency, the initiative will aim to provide education to five accessories and apparel brands to help them learn how to steer fashion’s supply chain and execute holistic business strategies that impact people, environment and profitability.
