In order to implement the ‘dual carbon’ approach in the textile industry, China recently developed a platform in Shanghai to identify sustainable textile products.
The platform, known as the ‘Reborn-China Fibre Zero Carbon Action 2023—Sustainable Textiles Credible Platform,’ will be jointly managed by the China Chemical Fibres Association and the National Advanced Functional Fibre Innovation Center and supervised by the department of consumer goods industry under the Ministry of Industry And Information Technology and the Suzhou Market Supervision Administration.
Duan Xiaoping, vice president of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, urged the industry to speed up the development of the platform during the launch event in order to ensure consumers’ confidence in purchasing eco-friendly products.
According to official Chinese media, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is assisting in the development of the platform as part of its efforts to construct China’s recycled fibre standard certification system.
Chemical fibre, an essential raw ingredient for the textile industry, is produced and used in greater quantities in China than anywhere else in the world.
In order to combat waste-related pollution and provide a consistent supply of raw materials for the manufacture of green fibres, a comprehensive waste textiles recycling system must be built. Duan said this will help the world reach its goal of having no old clothing waste.
Twenty six businesses have signed up to use the portal.
