
New garment manufacturing investments are being drawn to Cambodia, as confirmed by the Cambodia Investment Board (CIB), a division of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC). As per a CDC Facebook post, five companies, including four in the garment and accessories sector, have been awarded investment plan registration certificates.
These firms are set to collectively invest around US $ 52.2 million in establishing factories across the country, leading to the creation of nearly 14,000 job opportunities.
Aral International Co., plans to invest US $ 26.6 million in a garment factory in Kampong Speu province, creating over 6,700 jobs. Super Knitting (Cambodia) Co. will invest US $ 6.6 million in a factory in Takeo province, generating over 3,000 jobs and producing various garments.
SSCA Garment Co. will invest US $ 6.2 million in a sewing factory in Kandal province, creating over 1,100 jobs. Foton Packaging Product Co. is launching a handbag and accessories factory in Takeo province with a US $ 6.1 million investment, generating around 1,300 jobs.
With an investment of around US $ 6.7 million, United Creation Optical (Cambodia) Co. intends to construct an eyewear factory in the Samrong Tong district of Kompong Speu province, resulting in the creation of nearly 700 job opportunities.
The garment sector in the Southeast Asian nation, valued at US $ 7 billion, employs over one million workers and facilitated US $ 6.6 million worth of goods exports in H1 2022. However, the predominantly female employees in this sector often face challenges in reaping the rewards of their labour.
