Bangladesh has launched the first round of discussions to finalise a Service Level Agreement (SLA) designed to accelerate private-sector participation in commercial renewable energy projects under the forthcoming Private Participation Renewable Energy-Based Commercial Power Generation/Power Plant Establishment Policy, 2025.
The inaugural committee meeting was held on 16th November in Dhaka, with BGMEA Vice-President Vidiya Amrit Khan representing the garments sector. Syed Ahmed Ali, Senior Assistant Secretary of BGMEA, was also present.
Officials said the committee’s mandate is to craft a transparent and streamlined SLA framework that will provide clarity for investors developing renewable energy plants. The initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to expand clean-energy capacity, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and align with Bangladesh’s national sustainability commitments.
During the session, the committee reviewed proposed operational standards, performance metrics, regulatory responsibilities and transparency requirements. Participants stressed the need for private renewable energy ventures to remain cost-effective, reliable and in line with long-term national goals for energy diversification.
The BGMEA welcomed the government’s policy direction, noting that the RMG sector faces increasing pressure from global buyers to adopt cleaner production systems and demonstrate progress on emissions reduction. Access to stable and affordable renewable energy, the association said, is critical for the industry’s competitiveness.
Officials added that the finalised SLA is expected to give developers and investors greater certainty, helping speed up the rollout of renewable energy solutions across Bangladesh’s industrial landscape.
