
A meeting between the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Intertek Bangladesh was held at the Uttara BGMEA Complex to discuss strengthening sustainable development and cooperation in the country’s garment industry.
The session was attended by Ajay Kapoor, Regional Managing Director of Intertek South Asia, and Inamul Haq Khan, BGMEA Senior Vice President, along with other senior executives from both organizations. Intertek was represented by Ashish Gupta, Regional Chief Financial Officer, South Asia; Neyamul Hassan, Country Managing Director; and Aliza Sultana, Head of Sales, Business Development and CRM. BGMEA’s side included Nafis-ud-Dowla and Joarder Mohammed Hosne Quamar Alam, as well as Sheikh Suchita Jahan Sneha, Coordinator of the Responsible Business Hub.
The discussion focused on overcoming ongoing challenges in the garment industry, creating a more sustainable business environment, and expanding mutual cooperation. Inamul Haq Khan highlighted BGMEA’s vision to elevate the sector’s resilience and competitiveness through closer collaboration with Intertek across the supply chain using Intertek’s Assurance, Testing, Inspection, and Certification (ATIC) services. He emphasized the importance of digital platforms and regular training for workers and management to advance technological capabilities, especially for SMEs, and reiterated BGMEA’s commitment to a unified standard for social and environmental practices in the industry.
Both sides expressed strong interest in joint efforts to raise industry standards, with an emphasis on transparency and sustainability in the supply chain through knowledge exchange and closer collaboration. The BGMEA senior vice president lauded Intertek’s long-standing contributions and encouraged exploration of new cooperation areas.
Ajay Kapoor underscored the importance of Bangladesh’s garment sector to the global market and reaffirmed Intertek’s pledge to strengthen the partnership with BGMEA. “Our goal is to enhance the business standards and efficiency of BGMEA members by providing world-class services,” he said.
The meeting signals continued cooperation between BGMEA and Intertek to support a more sustainable, trustworthy, and competitive Bangladeshi garment industry in international markets.
