A historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by the Bangladesh Business and Disability Network (BBDN) and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to support inclusive workplaces for people with disabilities (PWDs) in the RMG sector.
The MoU intends to advance equal rights and better employment prospects for people with disabilities in the RMG industry, which is a vital component of Bangladesh’s economy. This cooperative endeavour is in line with BGMEA’s mission to establish a diverse and inclusive workplace that recognises each person’s contributions, regardless of their physical limitations.
Senior Vice President Inamul Khan Bablu of BGMEA as well as Directors – Fahima Akhter, Rumana Rashid and Samiha Azim represented BGMEA at the signing event. Citing his own experience dealing with colleagues who have disabilities, Inamul Khan Bablu highlighted the important role people with disabilities play in the workplace. “People with disabilities are more focused and attentive at work; in my organisation, their attendance rate is even higher than others.” They are our assets and I’m determined to further diversify my business,” he said.
Rumana Rashid, reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to promoting inclusiveness across the sector. She stated, “BGMEA is committed to guaranteeing equal opportunities and an inclusive environment throughout the RMG industry.”
The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding is a significant step in the greater effort to develop a more inclusive and diverse workforce in Bangladesh’s RMG industry, supporting the nation’s more general objectives of social justice, equality and sustainable business practices.
