The United State Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat is full of praises for the efforts undertaken to ensure a safe and secure readymade garment sector in the country.
Speaking to media recently, Bernicat said that after the Rana Plaza building collapse, the government, buyers, producers and unions concerned joined hands to work towards building the readymade garments (RMG) industry.
She said the safety of Bangladeshi RMG sector is much higher now. “For this, I appreciate Bangladesh,” underlined Bernicat, adding further that Accord and Alliance and ‘3 plus 5’ process have made many contributions to make the RMG sector safer, while also appreciating the Government in working towards development of the apparel sector with efficiency.
Bernicat maintained this while interacting with the media after a meeting with Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed in Dhaka.
The American envoy also lauded the Government’s various infrastructure development projects adding that her country is interested to invest more in Bangladesh, but for which Bangladesh needs to further develop and improve power generation, roads, seaports and airports to bring in the investments.
“We have worked to increase bilateral trade in last three years. The US support for Bangladesh takes many forms. Among those, we are the single largest export market and single largest sources of foreign direct investment (FDI). We are not satisfied with those. We want to increase further particularly bringing more investment and more businessmen here,” stated the US Ambassador.
