
During a recent wage board meeting, readymade garment manufacturers agreed to an upward revision of the minimum wage proposal, although they did not specify the exact amount by which it will be increased.
Reports claimed this adding the garment factory owners have stated their intention to raise the previously proposed minimum wage even as Liaquet Ali Molla, the chairman of the Minimum Wage Board, shared this information following the fifth meeting of the board, held at its office in the capital Dhaka.
This announcement comes after over a week when apparel factory owners initially proposed a minimum wage of Taka 10,400 for garment workers.
In contrast, garment workers have been staging protests in the garment industrial areas of Ashulia and Gazipur for several days, advocating for a minimum wage of Taka 20,393.
On 9th April of this year, the Government established the minimum wage board to recommend a new salary structure for garment workers.
The wage board meeting included representatives from both garment owners and workers.
