Even if the Bangladesh Government has instructed factory owners to pay 15 days’ wages to the workers before the Eid vacation starts, labour leaders have called for paying the garment workers full salary for April before the Eid vacation.
Media reports maintained this adding the labour leaders have protested the Government’s directions, while also maintaining it would be an ‘injustice’ to deprive the garment workers of the full salary.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Organising Secretary of the Garment Workers Trade Union Khairul Mamun Mintu said, “We have repeatedly called for clearing the due wages, providing Eid bonus equivalent to basic salaries, and salary for the month of April within 20 Ramadan,” while underlining workers were approaching the labour leaders to ensure that they get their full month’s salaries as they will work until 28 April before the Eid even if National Garment Workers Federation Vice-President Md Kabir Hossain, on his part, observed, “Frustration will grip the workers if they get salaries of only 15 days…Many of the factory-owners promised us about providing full month salaries. However, only 15-day wages will fail to satisfy the workers.”
