Andhra Pradesh’s Department of Handlooms and Textiles has announced a major partnership with Aadyam Hand-Woven, a project of the Aditya Birla Group, to assist and continuously engage with the state’s handloom weavers. This collaboration demonstrates the government’s dedication to advancing the handloom sector, which provides 177,447 weavers in Andhra Pradesh with a living and a cultural legacy.
The program comes after the Chief Minister and the Minister for Handlooms and Textiles gave clear directives to take the required actions to improve the standing of handloom weavers and increase market accessibility for their goods. In order to create mutually beneficial alliances, the Department of Handlooms and Textiles has been consulting with a number of institutions and organisations.
Through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), Aadyam Hand-Woven has committed to working with the weaving communities in Uppada, Pulagurtha, Angara, Venkatagiri, and Kodumuru Gadwal in order to develop a continuous Loom Feed Model. This concept seeks to maintain traditional crafting methods while providing weavers with a steady and sustainable income.
Aadyam aims to establish a self-sustaining ecosystem for craftsmen and is working in partnership with various weaving villages in India, including Varanasi, Pochampally, and Bhuj.
Along with handloom weavers and departmental representatives, G. Rekha Rani, I.A.S., Commissioner of Handlooms & Textiles, will meet with Manish Saksena, a representative from Aadyam, to finalise the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding.
