Come 2021 and US retail stalwart Walmart will be laying off 1,241 of its workers in its New Jersey and Arkansas unit.
According to the WARN notices filed in the aforementioned states, the decision will come into effect on 31 January 2021.
The massive reduction in the number of employees is expected to enhance the retailer’s omnichannel operations.
While confirming the same through an internal memo, Walmart said that all the affected workers were informed of the permanent layoffs back in July.
The retailer, reportedly, also said that though series of layoffs intends to make the organisation more efficient and effective, it also plans to create new roles in the supply chain as well in its stores to open up new opportunities.
As per the memo, the workers who will be laid off can also apply for the new positions in the company.
Workers assuming new roles, as per reports, will receive one year of salary protection in addition to getting the target bonus for the year. Those not assuming new roles will get target bonus and eligible transition benefits.
