Holiday season isn’t far away and Walmart is all set to battle the load.
The American clothing giant has announced to hire 40,000 US workers to manage the holiday rush.
What’s notable this time is that a majority of these workers will be seasonal workers and not permanent workers.
As in the previous years, the retailer will initially offer the current staff the opportunity to pick up additional shifts if they are keen to earn extra money during the holiday season.
A year back, the company had announced to hire as many as 150,000 new US store workers, of which most of them were permanent.
The scenario has changed now and Walmart is mainly looking at seasonal workers – especially at a time when the jobless rate has reached 3.7 per cent, highest since February.
Walmart is the world’s largest company by revenue, with about US $ 570 billion in annual revenue, according to the Fortune Global 500 list in May 2022.
