With the goal of creating an international sportswear brand from India, cricketer Virat Kohli has terminated his Rs 110-crore (US $ 12.8 million) agreement with Puma to invest in domestic sportswear startup Agilitas.
Abhishek Ganguly, the former MD of Puma India and South-East Asia, founded Agilitas in 2023. Ganguly first signed the cricket player to the German powerhouse in 2017, and the two have been working together for years.
According to a PUMA representative, PUMA India has confirmed the termination of its long-standing collaboration with cricketer and brand ambassador Virat Kohli. In addition to wishing Virat luck in his future ambitions, PUMA added that working with him over the years was a great experience, with many exceptional ads and innovative product partnerships.
Agilitas will now host and expand Kohli’s personal brand, One8, which was introduced in 2017. The business will lead the retail expansion in India and around the world.
More than Rs. 530 crore (US $ 61.6 million) has already been raised by Agilitas from investors such as Nexus Venture Partners and Convergent Finance. The firm has purchased sports footwear manufacturer Mochiko Shoes and holds the 40-year licence for the Italian sports brand Lotto in South Africa, Australia, and India.
