With the selection of French basketball player Victor Wembanyama as the newest face of the French luxury brand, Louis Vuitton has expanded its roster of ambassadors. Both the athlete and the brand are citizens of France.
Known affectionately as “Wemby,” the power forward has agreed to serve as an official representative of the company controlled by LVMH. Wembanyama will represent the brand in his new capacity at significant occasions and feature in advertising materials for the Parisian label.
“Striving for excellence and with a perpetual honing of craft, Victor joins Louis Vuitton on a journey of shared values and aligned ambitions. Like Louis Vuitton himself, the young athlete has blazed a trail, excelling in a career that is only just beginning,” said Louis Vuitton, in a statement.
The San Antonio Spurs chose Wembanyama with the first overall choice in the 2023 NBA Draft. With 3.6 million Instagram followers, the 20-year-old also has a sizable following.
Wembanyama becomes the latest high-profile athlete to join Louis Vuitton’s roster, which already includes fencer Enzo Lefort, skier Eileen Gu, swimmer Leon Marchand, and tennis players Carlos Alcaraz and Naomi Osaka.
With an eye towards the future, parent company LVMH is getting ready for the July and August Olympic Games in Paris, where it will be a significant partner.
