While online thrifting is a relatively new concept in Bangladesh, shopping at flea markets like New Market, Nurjahan, and Nilkhet has long been a part of practically every family’s routine. In layman’s terms, thrifting is shopping at a thrift store, garage sale, or flea market for gently used products at a low price.
Many online stores, like Bangladesh Thrift, Dhaka Vintage, and Colours Dhaka, have received substantial notice for their distinctive offerings.
Over the past five years, particularly during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, countless thrift stores have emerged as more people began to seek online-based, cheaper alternatives. These online stores have transformed how the youth consume fashion, steering them towards investing in sustainable fashion.
By spending money at thrift stores, customers recycle worn items and reduce the usage of raw materials needed for manufacturing, effectively lowering the carbon footprint. Additionally, thrift stores started as a side hustle for students aiming for financial independence.
