Nicola Formichetti, a renowned figure in the fashion industry, has been appointed as the first Artistic Director at SYKY, a prominent digital fashion platform. In this capacity, Formichetti will play a key role in forming partnerships with established luxury brands, nurturing emerging talent, and shaping the physical events hosted by SYKY. Additionally, he will act as a bridge between the traditional fashion world and technology, helping brands assume concepts such as the metaverse.
Formichetti’s impressive career includes a decade-long collaboration with Lady Gaga, during which he created iconic moments that left a lasting impact on both fashion and pop culture. Notably, he was the creative force behind some of Lady Gaga’s most memorable outfits, including the body-sized egg and the meat dress.
Having previously served as Creative Director for esteemed international luxury houses like Mugler and Diesel, as well as collaborating with renowned brands such as Uniqlo, MAC, and Alexander McQueen, Formichetti also has his own fashion label called Nicopanda.
In a recent interview, Formichetti expressed his attraction to SYKY’s fashion-tech universe. He appreciated the brand for its attention to detail and the inspiration from nature and technology, leading him to join the innovative platform.
SYKY’s Founder and CEO, Alice Delahunt, emphasised that the role of Artistic Director was specifically created for Formichetti. Delahunt’s previous experience in leading digital strategies at Burberry and Ralph Lauren has contributed to her recognition of the importance of digitisation in the fashion industry. She highlighted the rarity of finding individuals who share such a conviction in the digitisation of fashion as Formichetti does.
Despite taking on this new role, Formichetti will continue to serve as a creative consultant at Haus of Gaga and Haus Labs, as well as maintain his positions as founder of streetwear brand Nicopanda and creative fashion director at Uniqlo.
