
As non-essential retail stores reopened in Scotland yesterday, shoppers flocked to clothing and footwear stores.
The rush to buy clothes and footwear wasn’t surprising considering the non-essential stores were reopening in the country after 4 months.
Besides, outdoor hospitality services and gyms have been allowed to reopen under relaxed restrictions in Scotland.

Retail bigwigs like Frasers Group not only reopened their stores, but also launched their new Cruise flagship in Glasgow. However, small clothing independents too had an incredibly busy opening day.
Sarah Murray, who owns women’s clothing retailer Jane Davidson, while talking to media, said that they reopened only by appointment so as to give their VIP customers first picks of their Spring/Summer ’21 collection.
Though there are reports of shoppers buying more of T-shirts and casualwear, yet the primary intent of coming out on the streets, it seems, was to get the feel of going out with family and friends and enjoying – though with restrictions.
In fact, a shop manager at another womenswear store shared that e-commerce sales have fallen slightly over last few weeks as people have been eagerly waiting for the clothing and footwear stores to reopen and buy from stores.
Many were sure what they wanted to try and buy before visiting the stores.
It’s been good start despite a not-so-good weather in the country; however, it remains to be seen if the momentum is maintained all through the week.
