In its first-ever, fully-realised female collection, the British luxury brand Represent claims that its stand-alone edit was “informed by but not indebted to the men’s collections.” The company has established a new womenswear team called “Represent Woman,” led by designer Toni Purdie, to further this market.
In response to the growing number of female fans the brand has gained since its 2014 menswear debut, Represent Woman is scheduled to formally debut on 12th February. The team’s goal was always to develop a collection just for women based on the brand’s current DNA, according to its creators, George and Mike Heaton. They said they never meant to accomplish this in a drab manner.
With a large portion of the collection “made in Britain using British-sourced fabrics,” Purdie, who had previously worked with Topshop, offers more than 30 essential items for daytime and evening wear. The clothing, which is made entirely of silk and has a staple print meant to gently reference Represent’s origins, includes a spaghetti-strapped slip dress, barrel-legged trousers, racer-back vests, cut-out bodies, and a slouchy sweatshirt.
Represent will hold a special pop-up in Selfridges for the womenswear collection starting on the day of debut, in addition to having designated areas in its flagship shops in Manchester and Los Angeles.
