By September, a legal framework to promote the nation’s exports via e-commerce should be completed, according to Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal.
He stated that China sells US $ 300 billion worth of goods annually through this channel, while India only exports roughly US $ 5 billion. He claimed that there is a great deal of room to grow these exports.
A meeting involving relevant ministries, including revenue, and business leaders from marketplace platforms and logistics, was arranged in this regard.
“We are working on setting up e-commerce export hubs in the country. We discussed on its framework. It is in our 100-day agenda,” Barthwal told reporters.
When asked when the framework would be completed, he stated that it will be by September. It could increase to US $ 50–100 billion in the upcoming years. Small producers will find it easier to sell to aggregators through these hubs, and the aggregator will discover markets and make sales.
“It will be a framework for e-commerce export hubs and regulatory ecosystem. These hubs will come up near airports, and ports,” he said. Apparel is among the export products having a high potential for this system.
Due to the enormous export potential in the industry, the DGFT, the arm of the Commerce Ministry, is collaborating with the RBI and relevant ministries, such as the Finance Ministry, on a number of initiatives to increase exports through e-commerce. Export permissions can be expedited in these centres. In addition, it may include storage spaces, customs clearance, processing refunds, labelling, testing, and packing.
