Sports brand Puma has launched its first closed-loop collection ‘InCycle’, consisting of footwear, apparel and accessories made of entirely biodegradable or recyclable materials. The range has already earned the brand its first ‘Cradle to Cradle Certified Basic’ certification from the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute.
The collection consists of a biodegradable T-shirt that can be industrially composted, recyclable products like track jacket and a backpack. While, the backpack is made from polypropylene which can be broken down to the original substance and used again to make new backpacks, the track jacket is made from recycled polyester from used PET bottles, with the zip also made from recycled polyester.
The jacket can be turned back into polyester granulate to serve as a secondary raw material for other products, reducing the need for crude oil, energy and the amount of waste created. The brand has also launched a collection scheme in its stores called ‘Bring Me Back’ that promotes consumers to return used shoes, clothing and accessories from any brand to be recycled. The scheme is being run in partnership with global recycling company I:CO.
