According to sources in the sneaker industry, Bode, a menswear company known for its high-fashion interpretations of everyday items like lace tablecloths and family quilts, will be working with Nike on a new line of clothing and shoes. Two colourways of the Astro Grabber, a Nike shoe from the 1970s that has never been reissued, will be featured in the Bode x Nike collaboration.
One of Nike’s original styles, the Astro Grabber, is a football shoe with a waffle outsole designed expressly for use on artificial turf. Dan Fouts, an NFL Hall of Famer who contributed to the development of the Astro Grabber and was one of Nike’s original endorsers, wore it.
It was created by Bill Bowerman, a co-founder of Nike. The football team at the University of Oregon, where Bowerman was the track coach, received specialist turf shoes from the Nike co-founder when Fouts was a quarterback there.
Nike has never manufactured a retro version of the Astro Grabber, but in 2020, an Air Jordan 1 Low with a colourway designed to resemble the original Astro Grabber was made available.
The Bode x Nike Astro Grabbers are expected to debut as part of Nike’s Holiday 2023 collection and might go on sale at the close of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, according to one source. However, given that brand plans for trainer release dates frequently vary before a launch, this anticipated time frame for the release is subject to change.
