Metro Brands Limited has announced an ambitious step into the athletic footwear and sportswear category with the launch of MetroActiv, a new multi-brand retail concept aimed at expanding the company’s presence in India’s fast-growing performance and fitness market.
Following its partnerships with global lifestyle brands such as Foot Locker, Fila, and New Era, the retailer is now broadening its portfolio to include sports performance products. MetroActiv will feature footwear, apparel, and accessories from leading international brands including Nike, Adidas, Puma, Asics, Skechers, New Balance, and Fila, catering to running, training, lifestyle, and outdoor needs.
The company plans an initial rollout in Indore, Dehradun, and Jodhpur, with stores ranging between 3,000 and 6,000 square feet, alongside the launch of an e-commerce platform. Each outlet will combine retail and experiential elements, with community engagement initiatives such as collaborations with local running clubs and fitness groups.
The online platform will also offer digital wellness tools, including a calorie counter, nutrition tracker, and BMI calculator, integrating fitness engagement with shopping access.
Metro Brands Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, Nissan Joseph, said the new concept reflects a strategic expansion into the sports retail space, as India experiences growing consumer interest in health and fitness. He added that MetroActiv aims to bring leading global brands and performance-oriented products closer to Indian consumers while encouraging an active lifestyle.
The company said that MetroActiv’s pan-India operations will be supported by both physical and digital channels, ensuring consistency across retail formats as it scales up the new venture over the next year.
