Spanish fashion giant Mango is continuing its major UK store expansion, with plans to open a flagship store at Gateshead’s Metrocentre later this summer, marking its largest presence in the Northeast to date.
The new 6,233 sq.ft. store, located near Zara, H&M, and anchor brand Flannels on the lower Red Mall, will be Mango’s biggest store in the region. “This addition enhances the destination’s ability to deliver top-tier retail,” said Sovereign Centros from CBRE.
Metrocentre’s director, Ben Cox, stated, “Bringing Mango to Metrocentre adds a new dimension to our fashion offerings. Mango will be a highly complementary addition to our Red Mall lineup, which has seen significant investment and numerous new commitments over the past year. We consistently prove ourselves as the go-to retail destination, and we look forward to Mango’s success here.”
This announcement follows Footasylum’s recent move to a new and larger 12,375 sq.ft. space in Red Mall, increasing its presence by 25 per cent.
Additionally, Metrocentre has witnessed substantial investment and re-anchoring of Red Mall, with relocations and expansions for Sports Direct, Flannels, and Zara, creating over 170,000 sq.ft. of new retail space.
Mango has outlined ambitious store opening plans for Britain and Ireland, targeting over 20 new locations, including Stratford in East London, Manchester, Bristol, Brighton, and Milton Keynes, along with its entry into Northern Ireland and a return to Cork in the Republic.
