John Lewis, one of the well-known British fashion retailers, has said that it will be halting its plans of expanding its international business.
The fashion retailer has announced that it will no longer be accepting any orders for international delivery with effect from next week (9 December).
What makes the announcement noteworthy is that it comes just weeks before rise in international orders in the run up to Christmas and New Year.
There are reports that the retailer has been finding its international trading too costly to handle.
Here it is imperative to state that the retailer saw its international sales fall by nearly 17 per cent last year to £10.6 million, while its operating profits slumped by 10.3 per cent to £2.1 million.
The fall in last year’s international sales has probably been one of the factors to have influenced the retailer to take the decision.
A spokesperson of the retailer substantiated further by saying that John Lewis intends to focus more on business areas that will deliver products and services for its local customers in the UK.
So, in a week’s time John Lewis will be stopping its international delivery service, but it will be interesting to see the business strategy of the retailer going into next year.
