Right after when the world came to know that apparel retail sales in Japanese department stores grew a whopping 217 per cent in June ’20 over May ’20, the apparel sales data of Chain stores released by Japan Chain Stores Association (JCSA) too looks promising…!
The same-store apparel sales in 10,806 stores of 56 JCSA-associated firms posted 79,365 million yen revenue in June ’20, which is 40.11 per cent more than the sales figure of May ’20 – 56,643 million yen.
All three main product segments – menswear, womenswear and kidswear – reported surge in tune of overall growth.
Menswear in Japanese chain stores clocked 15,082 million yen, in June ’20 noting 46.92 per cent on M-o-M basis, while the revenues earned from womenswear sales were 18,687 million yen, which is 33.95 per cent higher than the sales figure of May ’20.
The sales of kidswear and all other garments collectively grew by 40.61 per cent on monthly basis to 45,597 million yen in June ’20.
However, the total apparel retail sales in Japanese chains stores fell 4.10 per cent in June ’20 over June ’19, owing to COVID-19 pandemic. The stores had to take measures against pandemic, follow Government’s rules and that reflected in the Y-o-Y fall.
