Four years ago, J. Crew threw itself in the fashion radar for releasing triple zero (000) size skinny jeans. Even though ‘catering to the Japanese market’ was their excuse but the damage had already been done. Now, after that episode J. Crew has acknowledged the much overdue negligence when it comes to plus-size clothing.
Recently, J. Crew unveiled a capsule collection after it teamed up with Universal Standard, a women’s clothing brand specialising in inclusive sizes, for summer and fall season. The label has released the range which is constructed to fit women throughout the size spectrum.
The collection encompasses sizes 6 through 32; on a capsule unveiling classic tops, pretty dresses, comfortable skirts, and athleisure-style pants. These stylish pieces are redefining the ease in transition from work to post office shenanigans. The effort to procreate trendy, well-made, and great-fitting clothes for all body types is an applaudable effort by J. Crew.
The thirty seven pieces of the J. Crew X Universal Standard capsule collection is now available online and in 12 select J. Crew stores, ranging from US $ 50 to US $ 150, for summer and fall collections.
The plus-sized industry is a much neglected one, to achieve a niche in this arena it’s imperative to work with a brand which strictly produces items catering to the plus-sized. The experience and understanding are monumental in releasing a size inclusive range where J. Crew has struck the right cords. It is the right step as the brand continues to cement its path towards a new direction.
J. Crew’s preference symbols a drift in the fashion industry as a whole. Many mainstream brands have expanded their sizing in the history but this is a leap forward in terms of creating a reachable and comfortable clothing range that is also inclusive of all community.
