Gucci, the renowned Italian luxury brand, achieved a remarkable feat at Milan Fashion Week by winning the prestigious Ellen MacArthur Foundation Award for Circular Economy during this year’s Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) Sustainable Fashion Awards.
Gucci’s victory came after fierce competition with finalists Chloe and ACS Clothing, all of whom received recognition for their dedication to circular fashion initiatives.
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation praised Gucci for its commitment to producing high-quality garments suitable for a circular economy while prioritising materials grown in an environmentally supportive manner.
In a strategic partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation established in July 2022, Gucci is set to launch an innovative denim collection next year.
This collection will feature regeneratively grown cotton sourced from a Regenagri-certified Algoeur farm in Spain and post-consumer recycled fibres collected and re-spun in Italy. Notably, each item in this collection will include a digital product passport, tracing its journey from raw materials to production, and providing essential information on product care and repair services.
Gucci CEO Jean-François Balus praised the Denim project as a testament to their collaboration with supply chain partners, highlighting the brand’s dedication to sustainability.
