
The largest labour union in France has urged retailers and clothing companies to turn off their in-store lights after midnight.
Substantiating further, Yohann Petiot, Alliance du Commerce General Manager, declared “The requirement to turn off signage between the hours of 1 am and 6 am must be strictly enforced everywhere. … lowering the temperature inside by at least 1 degree.”
The association represents 27,000 companies, including well-known clothes, footwear and stores located in the nation’s major cities.
Yohann further said that there are ecological and economic imperatives to respond to the Government’s call for energy sobriety to reduce energy consumption by 10 per cent.
“We have to do everything to limit this impact. These measures on signs, temperature and lighting, should help to contribute to this,” Yohannadded.
The Government has also notified households and businesses to gear up to pay increased energy bills from January 2023.
