Last week (12 April) saw all non-essential retail stores – including apparels and fashion – open to good response in England and Wales.
Fashion like-for-like sales, during the week that ended 16 April 2021, reportedly, witnessed a jump of 82.55 per cent.
The total like-for-like sales across fashion, lifestyle and homeware rose by a whopping 674.62 per cent compared to what it was during the same period last year.
The numbers are according to BDO’s High Street Sales Tracker.
Talking of in-store like-for-like sales, the rise was 1,717.98 per cent during the week, whereas the non-store like-for-like sales jumped by 49.59 per cent.
The numbers are huge and one could see long queues outside the stores of many fashion retailers like John Lewis and Primark last week.
The overall footfall numbers have been no less than extraordinary at 135.1 per cent.
While the retail parks in the region saw a year-on-year footfall jump of 166.3 per cent, the high street footfall rise was 121.2 per cent.
The shopping centres saw a surge of 133.8 per cent in its footfall.
It seems to be a good first week and it will be interesting to see if the fashion segment is able to show the same numbers in the coming weeks.
