Luxury brand, Burberry has announced that it will stop burning unsold merchandise worth millions of pounds to enhance its social responsibility credentials.
Notably, the British luxury brand came under fire recently, when the report emerged that it has burnt products worth £ 90 million in the last five years. Even the shareholders of the company were not pleased with this approach by the brand, few of them even demanding the unsold products to be distributed to the private investors.
The company said in an issued statement that they already re-use, repair, donate and recycle its unsold products and will enhance such efforts in the future. “At Burberry, we are passionate about driving positive change. Our responsibility goals cover the whole footprint of our activities and extend to the communities around us,” read the statement.
Famous for its iconic trench coats and checkered pattern scarves, Burberry has issued this statement, working on the commitment it made last year to tackle the reasons that cause wastage of goods.
Importantly, the UK-based fashion retailer is also undergoing a period of transformation. It recently changed its logo for the first time in nearly two decades and mentioned that it will remove the usage of real fur from all of its upcoming and existing collections.
The latest developments have come to light when Burberry is all set to showcase its debut collection under its new Chief Creative Officer, Riccardo Tisci, at the London Fashion Show later this month.
