A majority stake in UK-based children’s organic clothing brand Frugi, meaning ‘Fruits of the Earth’ in Latin, has been acquired by private equity house True. Frugi, known for offering sustainably-sourced organic cotton apparel and accessories for babies, children, and new mothers has also got a new Chief Executive who will support the growth of the brand.
The retailer has tapped Hugo Adams as its Chief Executive, who earlier served as Executive Board Director of Superdry and Chief of Staff at Marks and Spencer.
The retailer sells its products through John Lewis, Zalando, Next, and independent stores other than its own website welovefrugi.com.
The brand founded by Lucy and Kurt Jewson in 2004 in Helston Cornwall uses only organic cotton and recycled plastic bottles to manufacture its products.
The brand is a recipient of ‘Queen’s Award for Enterprise’. The honour came for it in 2014 when it was celebrating 10 years of existence.
The brand is still growing fast and expanding its product range. Now, team numbers have reached more than 80 people working at its HQ in Cornwall, and across the UK and Europe.
Lucy Jewson is hopeful that True team is going to protect and enhance Frugi’s innovative and ethical ethos, while helping the brand to reach more like-minded customers around the world.”
