Columbia Sportswear Company has announced the appointment of Cory Long to the role of president of its Sorel brand.
Long, a seasoned professional in the shoe and clothing industries, most recently held the positions of chief global merchant and global general manager at DC Shoes. Before that, Long had held executive positions at a number of different companies, such as Mitchell & Ness, Asics, Supra, and Converse.
“We are delighted to have Cory join the Sorel family,” said Craig Zanon, SVP, emerging brands.
Long takes over for former Sorel brand president Mark Nenow, who stepped down in June to concentrate on his health.
The Portland, Oregon-based firm stated at the time of reporting that Craig Zanon, senior vice president, developing brands, would oversee Sorel while it looked for a replacement.
Columbia reported a 3 per cent growth in net sales for the third quarter, totaling $985.7 million, in its most recent financial statement from October. The outdoor apparel company saw consistent gains in both its wholesale and direct-to-consumer channels.
Sales of each brand rose by 4 per cent to $804 million for Columbia and 9 per cent to $122 million for Sorel. Smaller companies PraNa and Mountain Hardwear had declines of 18 per cent and 9 per cent, in that order.
