French luxury fashion house Chanel has appointed Sophie Brocart, a seasoned executive from rival fashion firm LVMH to lead the firm towards fashion circularity initiatives. The strategic move comes as Chanel moves towards adopting sustainability with Brocart actively joining the Chanel team in 2025.
Brocart is currently the CEO of Patou and has a proven track record in the luxury fashion industry. She started her career in 1995 in the human resources department of LVMH and later joined Louis Vuitton as Group Merchandising Manager for Leather Goods. She also worked with Celine for ten long years till 2010 and left the fashion house to be MD of Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle. Post this she started her own consultancy firm until she joined the LVMH team yet again in 2013.
Chanel has been actively working to reduce its carbon footprint and promote circular economy principles. By establishing a dedicated entity and appointing a seasoned executive like Brocart, Chanel aims to accelerate its sustainability efforts and set new industry standards.
The move aligns with Chanel’s broader sustainability goals, including its “Chanel Mission 1.5” initiative launched in 2020. It plans to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. The company has been investing in various projects, such as the “Atelier des Matières” recycling program and partnerships with academic institutions, to reduce its environmental impact.
By embracing circularity and sustainable practices, Chanel aims to contribute to a more sustainable future and also reinforce its position as a leader in the luxury industry.
