Burberry has announced two major internal promotions, appointing a new chief operating and supply chain officer and a new chief customer officer—both key positions as the luxury house continues its recovery trajectory.
Matteo Calonaci has been named chief operating and supply chain officer, moving up from his role as senior vice-president of strategy and transformation. In his new position, he will oversee supply chain and planning, strategy and transformation, and data and analytics. He succeeds Klaus Bierbrauer, currently the company’s supply chain and industrial officer, who will depart following Burberry’s winter show and a transition period.
Meanwhile, Johnattan Leon has been promoted to chief customer officer. Leon currently serves as senior vice-president of commercial and chief of staff. His new remit will include leading Burberry’s customer and client engagement, customer service and retail excellence teams, as well as overseeing digital, outlet and commercial operations.
Both executives will join Burberry’s executive committee and report directly to chief executive Joshua Schulman. Schulman said the appointments reflected the strength of internal talent within the company. He added that both Calonaci and Leon had played pivotal roles in enhancing executional excellence and elevating the customer experience, and that their deep understanding of the business, its people and its customers gave him full confidence that their leadership would help drive the Burberry Forward strategy.
