Matalan, the UK-based fashion retailer, has announced the return of its founder John Hargreaves as its chairman.
John Hargreaves will assume his office with immediate effect even as executive chair Steve Johnson will quit from his post.
Here it is worth stating that John had stepped down as Matalan’s chairman back in 2007 and was then succeeded by another John – John Mills. John Mills, however, was later succeeded by Steve.
Elated over being a part of Matalan again, John Hargreaves thanked Steve for his invaluable leadership and contribution over the last two years.
He added “Matalan’s navigation of these challenges, our market share gains and the top-line performance announced in our latest trading updates, are testament to Steve’s leadership and our colleagues’ ongoing dedication.”
Founded in 1985 by John Hargreaves, Matalan – as of 2020 – had 13,000 employees and 230 stores in the UK, besides franchise stores in the Middle East.
