Asia’s market for babies’ garments and knitted or crocheted clothing accessories is expected to maintain an upward consumption trajectory over the next decade, driven by sustained demand across the region. Market growth is forecast to moderate, with consumption projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.8% between 2024 and 2035, bringing total volume to 1.7 billion units by the end of the period. In value terms, the market is expected to rise at a CAGR of 2.0%, reaching an estimated US $ 44.3 billion in nominal wholesale prices by 2035.
China remains the largest consumer of baby garments in Asia, accounting for 392 million units, or 28% of total volume. Consumption in China is more than double that of India, the region’s second-largest market at 161 million units. Turkey follows in third place with 132 million units, representing a 9.3% share. In value terms, Japan leads the market with US $ 14.8 billion, ahead of China at US $ 4.6 billion, followed by India.
On the production side, China dominates with 1.2 billion units, representing half of Asia’s total output and six times the volume produced by India, the second-largest manufacturer at 207 million units. Turkey ranks third with 143 million units, accounting for 5.9% of regional production.
In 2024, China (13 million units), Saudi Arabia (12 million units), Qatar (9.6 million units), India (9 million units), the United Arab Emirates (8.3 million units), Japan (6.8 million units) and Malaysia (5.3 million units) were the principal importers of babies’ garments and knitted accessories, collectively accounting for 70% of total Asian imports.
Japan (US $ 166 million), Saudi Arabia (US $ 139 million) and the United Arab Emirates (US $ 135 million) were the largest importers by value, together representing 45% of the region’s total. China, India, Malaysia, Qatar, Uzbekistan, Iraq and Cyprus made up a further 16%.
China also dominates the export landscape, shipping 837 million units—nearly 77% of all baby garments exported from Asia in 2024. India holds a 5.1% share with 55 million units, followed closely by Bangladesh at 5%. Thailand (38 million units), Pakistan (31 million units) and Cambodia (21 million units) collectively account for an additional 8.3%.
In value terms, China (US $ 1.8 billion), Bangladesh (US $ 1.2 billion) and India (US $ 1 billion) are Asia’s top baby garment suppliers, comprising a combined 73% of total exports. Cambodia, Pakistan and Thailand follow, together contributing a further 10%.
