
In order to ensure faster delivery to its customers ahead of the festive season in India, Amazon India has announced setting up of five new fulfilment centres (FCs) in the country.
The new fulfilment centres will be established in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Vijayawada and Kolkata. These warehouses will not only help the e-retailer, which has been witnessing a strong growth in its customer base, ensure timely delivery of products across the country but also keep the stock intact.
The opening of the new ones will take its FCs count to 67 with a total storage space of more than 20 million cubic feet.
The e-commerce company currently ships more than 40 million products through its network of distribution network in India.
The retailer has also been investing heavily in infrastructure and delivery web with an aim to ensure quicker delivery to every part of the country.
“The establishment of these new FCs will help Amazon to offer better Prime experience to our customers,” stated Akhil Saxena, Vice President, Customer Fulfillment, Amazon India in a statement.
It’s worth mentioning here that Amazon India witnessed an 80 per cent increase in its seller base to 2.7 lakh and the majority (50 per cent) of the merchants are from Tier II cities and beyond in 2017.
Amazon does not want to leave any stone unturned in view of the growth e-commerce sector in India.
Markedly, RedSeer Management Consulting anticipated that e-commerce in India would note a 60 per cent growth to reach US $ 28-30 billion in GMV (Gross Merchandise Volume) in 2018 as compared to 23 per cent (US $ 17.8 billion) growth registered in 2017.
