Manchester United and Adidas have agreed to an unprecedented 10-year, £900 million extension of their garment sponsorship agreement.
Following the British football team’s departure from Nike, the German sportswear business will continue to produce the team’s uniforms and other gear as part of one of the largest Premier League sponsorships, which started in 2015.
On its website, Manchester United claimed that its partnership with Adidas had “excited fans around the world with forward-thinking initiatives, iconic designs on the pitch and fan-favorite culturewear off of it” and that the new agreement “increases the focus” on its women’s team for new apparel.
“We are extremely proud to announce the extension of the contract with Manchester United,” Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden said.
The deal represents a significant rise over the prior agreement, which was worth about £ 750 million. It happens at a time when the renowned club may be put up for sale. The Glazer family, the company’s American owners, announced last year that they had started a “process to explore strategic alternatives,” which may include a complete sale.
