Switzerland based textile innovator HeiQ recently launched HeiQ X Reflex, a radiant barrier technology on high performance fabrics in order to create warmth without any bulkiness, allowing the user to “Wear Less in Winter”.
HeiQ X Reflex is created through collaboration between HeiQ and Xefco, an Australian textile technology company that is a partner of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Deakin University.
Humans lose about 60 per cent of body heat through thermal radiation. In order to stay warm, insulations that are made out of down, synthetic or fleece are mainly used in outerwear. The thicker the insulation, less is the heat loss that keeps the person warm. For the active person or a traveller, the main objective is to find the same warmth without all the bulk.
The innovative radiant barrier technology, HeiQ X Reflex allows outerwear, midlayers and sleeping bags to maintain the warmth while reducing the bulk by 50 per cent. It has an ultra thin reflective surface which has been applied through a high-tech vapour deposition process.
HeiQ X Reflex reflects the body’s radiant heat boosting the thermal resistance and allowing maximum breathability. The cutting-edge technology is matched with specific insulation and this combination creates the optimal heat retention that is required for the product.
With one layer of HeiQ X Reflex, the bulk can be reduced by upto 50 per cent while maintaining the same level of thermal resistance. Also one insulated jacket will save about 6 litres of water, 28 grams of CO2 and 10MJ of energy.

Furthermore HeiQ X Reflex will also be exhibiting at ISPO Munich which is to be held in February 2019. The innovative technology also offers multiple options of fabrics as well as insulations so as to create ideal warmth required for various activities.
