Kentwool Co., a leading manufacturer of worsted wool yarn, commemorates its 180th year in operation, marking a legacy spanning five generations of the Kent family’s ownership. Kim Kent, the company’s owner, and former president and CEO, passed on her presidency and CEO role in December 2023. Justin Ferdinand, currently serving as the COO and president of Kentwool Performance, assumes the role of CEO.
Ferdinand, recognised for his leadership, brings a background in fostering collaborative teams and organisations focused on innovation-driven outcomes. His tenure at Kentwool reflects alignment with the company’s core values, positioning him as a leader for steering the organisation forward. Remarkably, Ferdinand becomes the first non-family member to hold the CEO position in the company’s history.
Expressing her gratitude for leading the company over the past six years, Kim Kent acknowledged the dedication and talent of the wool industry’s individuals. Anticipating the transition, she welcomes Justin’s perspectives and anticipates his guidance in strategically advancing the company, maintaining a commitment to their workforce, processes, and products.
Kentwool, initially named The Kent Manufacturing Co., was established in Philadelphia, P.A by Thomas Kent, an English immigrant and Philadelphia businessman. Since its inception, Kentwool has specialized in crafting premium woolen goods. Across its illustrious 180-year journey, the company played roles in American history, producing uniforms for the Union Army during the Civil War and providing supplies to the US Armed Forces in both World Wars.
