To complete the settlement of employee debts, the government has appointed Arif Ahmed Khan, Additional Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), as the administrator of the Nassa Group.
The information was disseminated today via a circular from the Ministry of Labour and Jobs.
Since the group’s owner, Nazrul Islam Mazumder, is incarcerated, payments to its employees have been delayed for several months.
In addition to its banking and real estate holdings, the Nassa Group employs over 30,000 people in its textile and apparel businesses. Unpaid wages have been demanded by the workers in its clothing units.
Since the regime change in August of last year, the group has reportedly been paralysed, with factories idle and bank loans totalling thousands of crores of Taka still outstanding.
