Hundreds of garment workers from Style Craft Garment blocked the Dhaka-Gazipur Road on Saturday morning to demand their overdue salaries and dues. The protest caused significant traffic congestion on the busy route, disrupting daily commuters for several hours.
Approximately 700 workers from the factory participated in the demonstration, alleging that their management has not paid their salaries for the past seven months. The protest began early in the day, with workers taking to the streets and halting vehicular movement along the thoroughfare.
Responding to the situation, industrial police arrived at the scene to manage the protest and attempt to restore order. After several hours of demonstration, the protesters dispersed around noon, prompted by sudden monsoon rains that unexpectedly brought the rally to a halt.
To prevent further disturbances, additional police personnel have been deployed around the factory area, according to Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
