According to court filings, outdoor clothing manufacturer Patagonia sued Nordstrom, claiming the retailer was selling fake clothes. The matter was settled.
The corporations filed a joint petition on Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, announcing that they had reached a settlement agreement and asking for the lawsuit to be dismissed.
Nordstrom and Patagonia representatives have not yet responded to inquiries about the specifics of the deal. Patagonia launched the complaint against Nordstrom last year, claiming that following the termination of their sales agreement, the Seattle-based department store giant was selling thousands of “obvious counterfeits” of its t-shirts and sweatshirts.
The lawsuit accused Nordstrom of trademark and copyright infringement, seeking unspecified monetary damages and an injunction to stop the alleged counterfeiting.
Nordstrom denied the allegations in a court filing, stating that it was unaware the products were not genuine Patagonia items at the time of purchase.
“To the extent any of the products at issue were not genuine Patagonia products, Nordstrom had no knowledge of this at the time these products were purchased,” Nordstrom said.
