The production of Bisht, a traditional Middle Eastern garment worn by kings and rulers, is a unique sector that is thriving in Bogura. This unusual industry has been changing people’s lives and providing both employees and business owners with profitable chances.
Three manufacturers founded in the Hapunia district of Bogura Sadar by the “Probash” (“expatriate”) brothers, three expatriates, are the driving force behind this promising sector.
These factories serve as training grounds, giving employees the tools, they need to be successful in this specialised market.
Making a Bisht is a labour-intensive and complex process. A worker needs at least seven days to finish each outfit, which involves several stages like cutting the fabric, designing, and embellishing.
Even with a bright future, difficulties still exist. The industry is primarily dependent on imported resources, especially Japanese-only cloth. The need to import the fabric across Qatar creates needless complexities. The Government has been requested to expedite the import procedure by Raihan Ali.
This expanding business is recognised and supported by the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC).
AKM Mahfuzur Rahman, deputy general manager of BSCIC’s Bogura office, said, “BSCIC is prepared to offer loans and training to foster new entrepreneurs. We are staying updated with the latest developments.”
