
Shahi Exports, India’s largest apparel manufacturer and exporter, has released its second Sustainability Report for FY 2022-23.
The extensive report provides information on the company’s numerous efforts in several important areas of focus, such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Waste Towards Circularity, Water Efficiency, Chemical and Materials Stewardship, Empowered Workforce, Employee Health and Well-Being, Fair and Respectful Workplace, and Energy and Emissions Management.
Anant Ahuja, Head of ESG at Shahi Exports, said, “As the industry evolves, Shahi remains committed to conducting our business in a way that reduces negative impact and maximizes the positive impact on our people and the planet. The Sustainability Report is an important tool in helping us track our progress and identify areas where we can make further improvements.”
For Planet targets:
Reaching the target of 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2026 is made possible by increasing the capacity of renewable energy to 92.5MW.
Shahi phased out coal from clothing industries this year and is still working to get rid of coal in mills.
Attained a verified average score of 78.05 per cent for Higg FEM, which is higher than the global average of 59.67 per cent.
For the People front:
Shahi has dedicated 1.2 million hours to providing its staff with technical and behavioural skill upskilling.
Through the Gap Inc. PA.C.E. programme, the corporation has persisted in providing soft skills training for women, reaching over 86,000 women since 2007 and fulfilling 96 per cent of the training goal by 2024.
In order to support migrant workers, it collaborated with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and introduced the Yarn Ethically and Sustainably Sourced (YESS) programme, which aims to reduce the likelihood of forced labour in supply chains.
