Fashion giant H&M has decided not to charge shoppers for returning online purchases in-store, reversing its earlier policy.
Previously, customers faced a £ 1.99 fee to return parcels either in-store or online, with the cost deducted from their refund. However, H&M has now updated its website to state, “There will be no return fee for any parcels returned in-store.”
An H&M spokesperson acknowledged that the information on the website was “inaccurate” and had been corrected.
While this change applies only to parcels returned to physical stores, shoppers returning items bought online to H&M’s warehouse will still be subject to the fee.
Some rival retailers like Zara, Boohoo, Uniqlo, and Next already charge for online returns. Processing returns can be costly for retailers, and there are environmental concerns associated with the use of delivery trucks for returned goods.
H&M introduced the fee for online returns earlier this year. H&M members will continue to enjoy free returns, both in-store and online.
