
Over 1.83 lakh beneficiaries have been trained across 1,880 centres under the Textiles Ministry’s skilling scheme for workers and capacity building in textile — Samarth — in the previous three years and the current year, according to Darshana Jardosh, Minister of State in the Textiles Ministry, in a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha.
The Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) operated from 2010 to 2018 for skill development and capacity building of workers across the textile value chain was updated into the Samarth scheme, which was introduced in FY ’18.
According to Jardosh, the curriculum offers a demand-driven and job placement-focused skilling programme that complies with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) to support efforts made by the industry to create jobs in the organised textile and associated sectors. The program’s expiration date was raised from March 2021 to March 2024.
Tamil Nadu had the most centres (504), followed by Karnataka (435), and Uttar Pradesh (284), in terms of individual states. Assam (106) had the most textile training facilities in the Eastern region. As of 20th July 2023, Tamil Nadu had the most beneficiaries with a total of 41,742 recipients, followed by Karnataka (40,348) and Uttar Pradesh with 23,786 recipients.
The Ministry said that in addition to the Samarth programme, it also implements the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Programme, the Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Programme, the Amended Technology Upgradation Scheme (ATuFS), Silk Samagra, the National Handloom Development Programme, the National Handicraft Development Programme, the Integrated Wool Development Programme (IWDP), the National Technical Textile Mission (NTTM), and the Scheme for Integrated Textil
