Notwithstanding the recent changes in the US visa policy for Bangladeshi travellers, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has claimed recently there are no obstacles to shipments of ‘Made in Bangladesh’ apparel to the US market.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan clarified that there are no restrictions or sanctions on Bangladeshi exports to the US even as he reportedly held the 17 per cent decline in exports to the US market was primarily due to a decrease in demand rather than policy changes.
Faruque Hassan further added Bangladeshi apparel industry has successfully rebounded from the Covid-19 downturn while also cautioning the ongoing inflationary pressures resulting from the Russia-Ukraine conflict have impacted global purchasing power.
Highlighting the decline in US exports, Faruque Hassan also pointed out the positive growth in exports to emerging markets even as he expressed optimism about securing an extended duty-free access period to the EU market for six additional years following Bangladesh’s graduation from the category of Least Developed Countries (LDC) in 2026.
