Amazon, the US-based e-commerce stalwart, has said that will be paying for educational expenses of its frontline workers based in the US.
Lately, several retailers have been funding the school and college education of their employees and therefore it didn’t come as a surprise when Amazon too decided to make this move.
The e-commerce pioneer will pay for high school diploma as well as for full college tuition, besides GED and English as a Second Language (ESL) certification – and all this for its American frontline workers.
The move is being seen as a part of Amazon’s much-talked about Career Choice programme.
Starting January 2022, the frontline workers will have access to education benefits, but it will be only for those workers who have been working at Amazon for at least three months.
Amazon has said that the investment on the same will cost the online giant US $ 1.2 billion by 2025.
Notably, Amazon will also be adding three upskilling programmes, namely, AWS Grow Our Own Talent, Surge2IT and the User Experience Design and Research Apprenticeship programme, which will be available free to workers.
Amazon also said that in last 18 months, it has witnessed a surge of 460 per cent in employee interest for its Amazon Technical Academy upskilling programme.
