Fashion industry is leaving no stone unturned to save environment!
The global sports brand Puma collaborates with First Mile – a producer of recycled polyester sourced from plastic reuse such as bottles that are collected in low-income communities.
The collection, known as PUMA x FIRST MILE, includes pants, tees, shorts, jackets and shoes that are made from the recycled yarn, derived from plastic bottles.
Stefan Seidel, Head of Corporate Sustainability, Puma affirms, “The Puma and First Mile programme has diverted about 40 tonnes of plastic waste from landfills and oceans, just for the products made for 2020. This roughly translates into 1,980,286 plastic bottles being reused.”
Reinstating further on the same, Kelsey Halling, Head of Partnerships, First Mile, said “We hope that whoever buys this collection feels good about this purchase, not only in terms of choosing something that uses sustainable material, but knowing that those entrepreneurs in the First Mile are being connected to this product because it’s their material going into it.”
The new collection, made from 83-100 per cent more sustainable yarn, is available at Puma.com as well as at Puma stores and retailers worldwide, including India.
Also, this step is a part of Puma’s 10for20 initiative that includes social compliance through the chain.
